If I asked you right now what grade your child is working at in Maths, not "on track", not "doing fine", a number, could you tell me?

If the honest answer is no, even after a year of paying a tutor, you're not alone. Most families only get a real number when the mock comes home. Here's where the marks are really going.

Where the marks go

The marks a student drops usually aren't on the topics they don't know.

When a full paper is marked and every lost mark is sorted by why it was lost, the same four leaks show up again and again. Only two of them need more teaching.

1

The slip

Right method, arithmetic error, mark gone. This needs a checking routine, not another lesson.

2

The fragile method

It works on its own. Bury it inside a bigger question and it falls apart. This needs teaching.

3

The missing working

Right answer in their head, method never on the page, method marks gone. This needs teaching.

4

The clock

They just ran out of time. This needs a plan for the paper, not more content.

Another hundred lessons won't fix a slip or the clock. Sorting the lost marks by why is the whole job, and it's where Bodhi School starts.

How Bodhi School works

Six things, every one of them visible to you.

A full paper at home, marked by hand

Your child sits a Bodhi-original paper (never a past paper, so it's a true test) and it's marked by a qualified teacher who marks GCSE papers as an examiner. Every lost mark is sorted by why.

Two grades in writing

The grade they're working at today, and a guideline expected grade for the exam. A guideline, not a promise. Anyone who guarantees a grade is guessing.

A live class of six

Online, with a qualified teacher. Every student works on their own whiteboard and the teacher sees all six boards at once, so nobody hides at the back and nobody waits their turn. Each session opens with a 15-minute timed unseen problem.

Set work every day

About 25 minutes, four days a week, matched to what leaked in the last paper. Little and often is what moves a grade.

A full paper every six weeks

So you can see the number moving, and so the expected grade stays honest.

One page for you, every week

The expected grade, and whether your child is on track. That's it. No vague "doing well".

After GCSE, students carry on into A-level Maths with the same teacher. The relationship doesn't end on results day.

Included until 30 November

The GradeLens diagnostic

Before the first class, your child sits a full Bodhi-original GCSE Maths paper at home. It's marked by hand, by a qualified teacher who marks GCSE papers as an examiner, and you get a written report.

Who teaches

One teacher. Every class.

"I'm a qualified teacher, I teach GCSE Maths, and I mark GCSE papers as an examiner."

Qualified teacher

BSc Physics and a PGCE with Distinction. Has taught ages 11 to 18 in more than a dozen schools, most recently at a leading independent school.

GCSE examiner

Marks GCSE papers for an exam board, which is why every lost mark on your child's paper gets sorted by why it was lost.

Fourteen years of tutoring

GCSE and A-level Maths, one to one and in small groups. Bodhi School is that teaching, in a class of six, with the numbers in writing.

A real student · name changed

"Sam started exactly this way: a full paper, every lost mark sorted by why, then the work. Two grades up, and a set higher at school."

Shared with the family's written permission. Results depend on the work your child puts in, which is why we never promise a grade.

Questions parents ask

The straight answers.

Which exam boards and tiers?

GCSE Maths with Edexcel, AQA or OCR, and Edexcel International GCSE Maths (4MA1). Foundation and Higher. The diagnostic tells us which tier is right, and we agree it with you.

Is Year 10 taught with Year 11?

No. The January intake has one class for Year 10 and one for Year 11, six students each. Year 11 students sit their exams in summer 2027 and can continue into A-level Maths in September. The Year 10 class sits in summer 2028.

What happens when the 12 places are filled?

A waitlist opens. We open places as classes have room, month by month, and waitlisted families are offered them first. Classes never go above six.

What does my child need?

A laptop or desktop with a webcam and a quiet space. Classes run on an online whiteboard, so a mouse or a cheap drawing tablet helps. We'll send set-up instructions before the first class.

Are classes recorded?

No. Classes are never recorded. Parents are welcome to sit in on any session.

Is there a guarantee?

No. The expected grade is a guideline we write down and report against every week. Anyone who guarantees a GCSE grade is guessing, and we'd rather give you an honest number than a promise.

What if we miss a class?

Set work continues, and the next session's 15-minute opener shows us what was missed. We'll tell you on the weekly page if two missed sessions start to show in the numbers.

Can we leave?

Yes. Cancel any time to the end of the month you've paid for. You can also pause for up to two months in an academic year and keep the £189 rate.

Is there a free trial or a taster lesson?

No. The diagnostic paper and report are the proof step, and if you'd like to talk first, book a 15-minute call.

So on results day, the number in the envelope surprises nobody.

Least of all your child. Enrol for the January intake, and your child sits the diagnostic paper before Christmas.
